About Jani

Jani Monet Rodrigues is an independent flamenco dancer from Boston with a background in ballet, tap, jazz, modern, African, and belly dance.

​

In 2002, she saw her first flamenco performance in Madrid, Spain. When she returned to New York City, where she was living at the time, she began to study the art form, taking classes from teachers such as La Meira, Omayra Amaya, and La Conja. In 2008, she was awarded a prestigious scholarship to participate in the Cultural Traditions Flamenco Program at The School at Jacob’s Pillow under the tutelage and direction of Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca.

In 2009, Jani moved to Spain where she continued her flamenco journey with renowned artists such as Rafael Campallo, Adela Campallo, Andrés Peña, Pilar Ogalla, Ángel Atienza, Isabel Bayón, La Lupi, María Juncal, and Carmela Greco.

Jani has performed in New York City, Málaga, Seville, and Boston as a solo artist, as well as in collaboration with dance companies. Her flamenco performances have taken her from small venues to sharing the stage in productions such as  Bizet's "Carmen" with the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra as a featured flamenco dancer.

Jani is also a choreographer, movement director, actress, and educator. She has a master's degree in adolescent education, and has taught in public and private schools in the U.S. and Spain.
